AR Automatic Bag Measure

Conducted research and development for an augmented reality–based baggage measurement system built with Unity3D, designed to help airline passengers accurately measure their luggage dimensions before booking flights through a mobile ticketing application. The project focused on reducing excess baggage issues and additional airline charges by allowing users to scan and measure their bags in real time using their mobile device camera.
The application utilized advanced depth-data processing techniques combined with AR technologies to analyze real-world objects and calculate accurate baggage dimensions and volume measurements. A major part of the research involved reading and interpreting depth data directly from the camera feed, processing spatial information, and improving environmental understanding for stable object detection and measurement accuracy.
To achieve reliable real-world tracking and surface detection, I worked on implementing SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithms for plane segmentation and point filtering. These systems enabled the application to identify ground surfaces, isolate baggage objects from the surrounding environment, and stabilize spatial calculations in varying real-world conditions. The project also involved developing mathematical algorithms capable of generating dynamic bounding boxes around detected luggage in order to calculate the bag’s approximate dimensions and volume with improved precision.
Considerable effort was placed on optimizing object tracking, spatial calculations, and measurement consistency while maintaining a smooth user experience on mobile devices. The system combined computer vision concepts, augmented reality workflows, spatial mapping, and mathematical modeling to create a practical real-world utility application beyond traditional gaming use cases.
This project demonstrated my ability to work in advanced R&D-focused environments using Unity3D, combining AR development, depth-data analysis, SLAM-based spatial understanding, algorithm development, and real-time object measurement systems to solve real-world problems within the airline and travel technology industry.
